Bor8 Rods (previously called Impel Rods), are molded from water-diffusible borates and are highly concentrated for maximum efficiency.
- When inserted into decaying wood or wood in high risk areas, Bor8 rods diffuse very slowly and provide a controlled and long lasting release of borate preservative.
- Can be use as a ‘Preventative’ or a ‘Remedial’ depending on the concentration of rods used.
Bor8 rods can be installed:
- as a preventative at 2 oz. boric acid per cubic foot
- or a ‘kill’ rate of 6 oz. boric acid per cu/ft.
Bor8 rods are approximately 79% Boric Acid…thus we’ve included the boric acid (equivilant) weight with each size of rod.
A practical example of this: a single 3/4″ x 3″ bor8 rod will protect an area about the size of a football for 8-10 years under normal conditions. Think of this as the length of the football as being in the direction of the length of the log/post/beam…this is due to the capillary action being in the direction of the longitude of the grain.. The tendency is for the boric acid to drift toward moisture thus deforming the ideal diffusion shape.
In consistently moist environments,
…(such as fence posts), Bor8 rods retain their effectiveness for 3 to 10 years. Their effectiveness can be enhanced if wood surfaces are sealed with a paint or water repellent sealer. Rods should be checked periodically and new rods inserted, when necessary.
Treated plugs are available to easily seal the hole you have drilled to insert the impel rod into.
